Developed by Brazil's Instituto Agronomico de Campinas in the 1960s, Catuai crosses Mundo Novo with Caturra to unite the former's vigour with the latter's compact stature. A strong cherry-to-branch attachment makes the plant unusually resistant to wind damage, and it is highly productive, yielding well between roughly 800 and 1,600 metres at very good quality. Both red and yellow cherry variants exist, and the cup runs clean and sweet with moderate acidity. That wind resistance, however, brings no protection from disease: Catuai inherits susceptibility to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease from both parents, and fungicide programmes are standard across Brazilian production. Its reliability and dense, harvestable canopy have made it one of the most planted Arabicas in the country.

Catuai is a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra, developed by the Instituto Agronomico de Campinas (IAC) in Brazil in the 1960s. Combining Mundo Novo's vigor with Caturra's compact stature, Catuai is highly productive and resistant to wind damage thanks to its strong cherry-to-branch attachment. The cup profile is clean and sweet with moderate acidity, and both red and yellow cherry variants exist.
