Puck Screen
A thin metal mesh disc placed on top of the coffee puck inside the portafilter to promote even water dispersion from the shower screen. It also keeps the group head clean between shots.

Puck screens, typically made of stainless steel or sintered metal, act as a secondary diffusion layer that spreads incoming water more uniformly across the puck surface. This is especially helpful on machines with uneven shower screen flow. As a side benefit, they prevent coffee grounds from contacting the group head gasket and screen, significantly reducing cleaning frequency. Standard sizes match 58 mm baskets, and screens range from 150 to 300 microns in mesh fineness.
