Coffee Culture

Barista

A trained professional who prepares and serves espresso-based coffee drinks. The term comes from Italian, where it simply means 'bartender,' but in English it specifically denotes coffee expertise.

เชิงลึก

The barista role has evolved from order-taker to skilled craftsperson. Modern specialty baristas are expected to dial in espresso recipes, execute precise milk texturing, perform latte art, maintain equipment, and communicate coffee knowledge to customers. Professional development paths include SCA certifications, Q-grader credentials, and competition circuits—the World Barista Championship (WBC) is the sport's pinnacle, where competitors present signature drinks to judges. The barista profession has driven much of third wave culture, as skilled baristas become brand ambassadors and industry influencers.
