Tekisic is an improved Bourbon selection developed by El Salvador's Salvadoran Institute for Coffee Research through rigorous multi-generation selection, its name drawn from a Nahuatl word for work. The programme spent decades refining traditional Bourbon's yield without sacrificing cup quality, and the result delivers a clean, sweet cup with bright acidity, a medium body and notes of caramel, citrus and milk chocolate. It yields moderately at excellent quality between about 1,200 and 1,700 metres. Because the breeding focused on yield improvement within the Bourbon lineage rather than introducing resistance genes, Tekisic remains susceptible to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease and is managed under standard fungicide programmes. It represents a patient Salvadoran effort to enhance a classic cultivar while keeping its prized flavour intact.
