Ikhtisar

The Colombia variety, not to be confused with the country, was released by Cenicafe in 1982 as the first major disease-resistant cultivar for Colombian growers. Built as a composite of Caturra crossed with the Timor Hybrid, it was designed to hold productivity while adding leaf rust resistance, and it proved the concept that resistance breeding could work at national scale. It offers good resistance to coffee leaf rust and partial tolerance of coffee berry disease, yielding heavily at good quality between roughly 1,000 and 1,800 metres. Although Castillo has largely superseded it, the Colombia variety remains in production and laid the groundwork for the modern Colombian breeding lineage. Its historical importance is as the first generation of cultivars that let the country defend its harvests against an advancing pathogen.

A composite of Caturra x Timor Hybrid crosses, it was designed to maintain productivity while providing leaf rust resistance. Though largely superseded by Castillo, Colombia variety laid the groundwork for modern Colombian disease-resistant breeding and remains in production.

Ketahanan Penyakit

Good resistance to coffee leaf rust from Timor Hybrid genetics; partial resistance to coffee berry disease. First generation of Colombian disease-resistant cultivars, superseded by Castillo; groundbreaking proof of concept for resistance breeding.
