Marsellesa is a Sarchimor-derived variety developed by the French institute CIRAD and released through World Coffee Research, selected specifically for superior cup quality among disease-resistant lines and named after the French national anthem. Its Timor Hybrid ancestry gives strong resistance to coffee leaf rust, and at higher elevations its cup can rival traditional varieties, showing clean acidity, good sweetness and a chocolate-citrus complexity. The variety yields heavily at very good quality between about 1,000 and 1,600 metres. World Coffee Research recommends it as a rust-resistant alternative that need not sacrifice quality, positioning it among the improved Sarchimor lines that also include Centroamericano. For growers weighing agronomic security against flavour, Marsellesa represents a deliberate attempt to close the gap between resistant and traditional Arabicas.
