It performs best at lower elevations, where SL28 and SL34 struggle with disease pressure, and it is recommended for Kenyan regions between roughly 1,000 and 1,600 metres. Yields are moderate and quality good, with a clean, mild cup showing moderate acidity and a smooth, balanced profile suited to commercial production. Its partial tolerance of berry disease was the trait that justified its selection, though it remains susceptible to coffee leaf rust. K7 fills a practical role in the Kenyan portfolio, offering reliable yields on lower ground where the celebrated SL selections would face heavier disease losses, and its genetics later contributed to the broad-resistance breeding behind Ruiru 11.
