Bourbon Pointu

Bourbon Pointu, also known as Laurina, is a natural low-caffeine mutation of Bourbon discovered on Reunion Island. Its beans are distinctively elongated and pointed, containing about half the caffeine of typical Arabica. Nearly extinct by the mid-20th century, it was revived through Japanese-funded research in the early 2000s. The cup is exceptionally delicate, with tea-like body, floral notes, and bright citrus acidity.

Highly susceptible to coffee leaf rust; near-extinction by mid-20th century was partly driven by disease pressure. Revived under controlled research on Reunion Island with intensive management; not suited to high-rust environments.
