Harrar is one of the oldest coffee-producing regions in the world, situated in eastern Ethiopia's dry highlands where coffee has been cultivated since at least the 16th century. The region's arid climate and minimal water access mean nearly all coffee is dry-processed on raised beds, giving Harrar its distinctive wild, fruity character. These coffees are renowned for their heavy body, blueberry and dried fruit notes, and a rich wine-like fermentation complexity. Harrar's unique terroir produces a flavor profile unlike any other Ethiopian region, making it highly valued for both specialty roasting and traditional blends. The ancient walled city of Harar remains a living testament to centuries of coffee trade history.
