Coffee Types & Grading

Specialty Grade

Coffee scoring 80 points or above on the SCA 100-point cupping scale, with zero Category 1 defects and fewer than five Category 2 defects per 350-gram sample. Specialty grade represents the top tier of commercial coffee quality.

Vertieft

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) established the grading protocol to create a universal language for coffee quality. A licensed Q-grader evaluates green and roasted samples across fragrance, aroma, flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance, uniformity, clean cup, sweetness, and overall impression. Coffees scoring 80-84.99 are considered very good, 85-89.99 excellent, and 90+ outstanding or rare.
