Tim Tim is the local name for the Timor Hybrid varieties grown in the Aceh region of Sumatra, Indonesia. It descends from the natural Arabica-Robusta cross discovered on the island of Timor in the 1920s, and its Timor Hybrid base gives high resistance to coffee leaf rust along with moderate to good tolerance of coffee berry disease. The variety yields heavily at good quality between about 800 and 1,500 metres, and it carries the earthy, herbal, full-bodied character typical of wet-hulled Sumatran coffees, which makes it important to the Gayo Highland coffee culture. Beyond its own cultivation, the resistance genetics behind Tim Tim became foundational to disease-resistant Arabica breeding worldwide, since the Timor Hybrid it derives from is the ancestor of the Catimor and Sarchimor lines.
