Mundo Novo is a natural hybrid between Typica and Bourbon, first identified in the 1940s in the Mundo Novo region of Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is a vigorous, tall plant with excellent productivity, making it one of the most widely cultivated varieties in Brazil. Mundo Novo cups tend to feature a full body, low-to-moderate acidity, and sweet nutty character, forming a reliable base for commercial and espresso blends.

Susceptible to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease, inheriting vulnerabilities from Typica and Bourbon parents. Dense canopy increases moisture retention, elevating fungal disease risk; managed with fungicide regimes in Brazil.
