It produces the largest beans of any Arabica cultivar, earning the nickname 'elephant bean.' While yields are low, Maragogipe is valued for its smooth, buttery body, mild acidity, and distinctive sweet flavor that makes it a specialty curiosity and a popular parent in crosses like Pacamara.

Highly susceptible to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease, sharing Typica's full vulnerability. Low yields compound disease impact, making it economically fragile in high-rust environments; shade management is common.
