About

Arusha is a Typica-type variety cultivated on the slopes of Mount Meru near the city of Arusha in northern Tanzania, and also found in Papua New Guinea. It is believed to have been introduced to East Africa by French missionaries. Arusha produces a bright, clean cup with pronounced citric acidity, medium body, and sweet fruit notes reminiscent of both East African and Central American Typica traditions.

Disease Resistance

Susceptible to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease as a Typica-derived Arabica. Limited published data specific to Arusha; altitude cultivation at 1,400–1,800 m in Tanzania provides natural disease suppression.
