Rainforest Alliance Certified
An environmental and social sustainability certification that requires farms to meet standards on ecosystem conservation, worker welfare, and farm management. It uses the green frog seal as its consumer-facing mark.

The Rainforest Alliance merged with the UTZ certification in 2018, creating one of the largest sustainability programs in coffee. Unlike Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance does not set a price floor but requires a sustainability differential payment to farmers. The certification focuses on integrated pest management, shade cover preservation, riparian buffer zones, and safe agrochemical use. Farms are audited by third-party bodies against the Sustainable Agriculture Standard. Large commercial roasters—including brands supplying institutional and retail markets—are major buyers of Rainforest Alliance certified coffee.
