Coffee Types & Grading

Liberica

Coffea liberica, a minor commercial species grown primarily in the Philippines, Malaysia, and West Africa. Liberica beans are distinctively large and asymmetric with a bold, woody, floral flavor profile.

Em Profundidade

Liberica once rescued the global coffee supply when a leaf rust epidemic decimated Arabica plantations across Southeast Asia in the late 1800s. Its fruit and beans are significantly larger than Arabica or Robusta, and the flavor is polarizing — often described as smoky, jackfruit-like, and perfumed. The Philippines markets its Liberica as Barako coffee, a cultural staple in Batangas province.
