About

Bench Maji is a remote, biodiverse region in Ethiopia's far southwest where wild coffee still grows in pristine montane rainforests. The area's isolation has preserved ancient coffee varieties and traditional forest management practices passed down through generations. Coffees from Bench Maji tend to be full-bodied with earthy, herbal notes and subtle dark fruit sweetness. The region's lower elevations compared to Yirgacheffe or Guji produce a different flavor profile, emphasizing body over brightness. Bench Maji represents one of the last frontiers of Ethiopian specialty coffee, with increasing interest from buyers seeking unique wild-harvested lots.
