Traceability
The ability to track a coffee from the specific farm, lot, or cooperative where it was grown through processing, export, and roasting to the consumer. Traceability is a cornerstone of specialty coffee transparency.

Full traceability includes the producer's name, farm coordinates, variety, processing method, harvest date, export lot number, and import documentation. Some roasters use blockchain or QR-code systems to make this chain visible to consumers. Traceability enables quality accountability—if a lot scores exceptionally, the producer can replicate conditions; if it fails, the point of failure can be identified. It also allows consumers to make informed purchasing decisions based on social and environmental criteria.
