Lot Number
A unique identifier assigned to a specific batch of green coffee, enabling traceability from farm or cooperative through processing, export, and import. Lot numbers connect cupping scores to the exact production batch.

Lot numbering systems vary by origin: some mills assign sequential numbers per harvest day, others encode farm identity, processing method, and harvest week into the lot code. A single farm might produce dozens of lots in one season if it separates by variety, altitude zone, or processing experiment. Importers and roasters track lot numbers through their inventory systems to maintain traceability. When a roaster identifies an exceptional coffee, the lot number allows them to re-order from the same production batch the following season or trace the conditions that produced the quality.
