Malawi is a small but distinctive coffee origin in southeastern Africa, producing both Arabica and Robusta. The country's specialty Arabica comes from the northern highlands — the Misuku Hills and slopes of Mount Mulanje — at elevations of 1,000-1,500 meters. Malawian coffees offer a unique profile: medium body with bright citric acidity, black tea notes, and a distinctive floral-herbal complexity. The industry is largely smallholder-driven, with cooperatives leading quality improvement programs.
