C-Price

The benchmark commodity futures price for Arabica coffee traded on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) as Contract C. It is quoted in US cents per pound and sets the baseline for global Arabica pricing.

In Depth

The C-price reflects supply-demand dynamics for washed Arabica coffee and is heavily influenced by Brazilian production forecasts, currency fluctuations (especially BRL/USD), and speculative trading. While specialty coffees trade at significant premiums above C-price (differentials), the C-price still anchors negotiations. When C-price drops below the cost of production—roughly $1.50–$2.00/lb in most origins—farmers face financial distress, which is why fair trade and direct trade models guarantee minimum prices above C-price. Robusta has its own benchmark on the London ICE exchange.
