Coffee Types & Grading
Robusta
Coffea canephora, commonly called Robusta, is the second most produced coffee species, known for its high caffeine content, earthy flavor, and thick crema. It grows at lower altitudes and resists pests more effectively than Arabica.
Vertieft
Robusta contains nearly twice the caffeine of Arabica (2.2% vs 1.2%), which acts as a natural insecticide but also contributes a more bitter, rubbery flavor when roasted conventionally. Vietnam is the world's largest Robusta producer. In recent years, fine Robusta initiatives in India, Uganda, and Indonesia have produced washed lots scoring above 80 points, challenging the species' low-quality reputation.
